- Make sure information on your website is consistent with the same information across other sites listing your business, otherwise AI gets confused.
- Your Google Business Profile is either helping people understand your business or making them work too hard.
Start with your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is one of the most visible business information sources for local discovery. And I’m continually surprised by how many companies leave it incomplete.
Your business name, address, phone number and hours need to be correct. Your primary category should fit what you actually do. Your services should be understandable to someone who has never worked with your company before.
This isn’t about stuffing in every keyword you can think of. It’s about getting the basics right and presenting your business accurately.
Consistency matters more than clever wording
Look at your website. Then compare it with your business profile, relevant directories and other public listings. Are you using the same company name? Is the address current? Can people reach you at the number you list?
Inconsistencies confuse potential clients. They can also make it harder for search services to match records about your business. If you’ve moved offices, changed names or expanded services, make sure the information gets updated everywhere that matters.
Your description should explain your expertise
Don’t just write, “We offer exceptional service.” Exceptional at what? For whom? In which markets?
Describe your specialty in plain language. A prospective client should quickly understand whether you’re the right choice. Add relevant photos of your team, workplace or work, where appropriate. Keep your profile active and respond professionally to reviews.
A complete profile does not guarantee an AI recommendation. But it makes the underlying business information more useful and trustworthy to people.
Your website and profile must tell the same story
Now look at your website. Does it explain your services with the same clarity as your profile? Are your experts named and their credentials current? Does each important service have a helpful page? Do visitors have an easy next step?
Structured data can also help search engines interpret details about your organization, location and content. It’s useful technical housekeeping, not a shortcut to automatic authority.
Add outside proof
Here is the piece I never want you to forget: your digital presence does not end at your own website.
If you’ve been quoted in trade publications, featured in respected media or invited to share expertise with a credible organization, make those appearances easy to find. A good business profile provides the facts. A good website explains the value. Independent coverage adds evidence.
The takeaway
Your Google Business Profile is either helping people understand your business or making them work too hard. Keep it accurate, complete and connected to the rest of your online presence.
